LYMPHOMA- DR MALLIKARJUN KALASHETTY

Left atrial appendage is the left border of the heart's anterior surface which extends out from the heart. It does not participate actively with left atrium in contraction. More than 90% of the clot in atrial fibrillation occurs in this region. The treatment for such condition is oral anticoagulation (OAC). The complications of OAC's are constant blood test for maintaining the PT and INR. Failure to do so leads to bleeding including brainhemorrhage. This is a major burden to the patients. The alternative for this medication (warfarin or acitrom) is closure of LA appendage by using devise without surgery. After four to six months of devise closure warfarin can be completely stopped.

In this procedure approach is through femoral vein. Catheters are taken to right atria. Using a small needle communication is created between right and left atria. Device is taken to left atria and Left atrial appendage is closed. The procedure is done through local anesthesia using fluoroscopy and echocardiogram .
